Application procedure

After working in Heidelberg for some months and having established a working plan together with the supervisor(s) for the research to be undertaken, the student can apply at the IPP-office to be accepted as participant of the IP-Program (download application form as PDF document (89 KB), or a Version as Word Document (12 kb)). He might be asked to give a presentation on the planned research. A council of university professors then decides about the admission to the IPP. Of course, it is possible to graduate at the Faculty of Earth Sciences without being part of the IPP.

The faculty encourages that the students in the different working groups have more than one supervisor of a thesis. Therefore a thesis might be supervised by a scientist from the faculty in co-operation with another scientist, coming either from Heidelberg or from abroad. After agreement of at least one supervisor to accept the student and to provide a working place, the student has to formally apply to be admitted to the faculty. The faculty does consider foreign university degrees for equivalence, but in some cases this might take some time. For students from abroad, especially for those from outside the EEC, it is necessary to have a financial plan which is required also for obtaining visa. At this stage in the process, the IPP is not involved.
