Astronomy and Physics - for schoolgirls
The Equal Opportunities Office and the Kids’ University have co-founded the Schoolgirls’ Physics Club. Under the guidance of a young female mentor, experiments and discussions are taking place throughout the year. Schoolgirls interested in physics and astronomy meet once a week at one of the university’s Institute of Physics. They are given assistance by women students in learning and working for scientific subjects in school and beyond their active membership in the Club they stay in touch with their mentors, who accompany and support them in questions on scientific subjects up to their school-leaving exams via an internet platform.
These activities are designed to interest young women in science and thus in the long term to increase their participation in this sector of academia and to enhance networking among these women.
Kick-off was after carnival in 2010. Cooperation partners are the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, Fundamental Physics Graduate School and the Hölderlin-Gymnasium in Heidelberg.
There are experiments in various fields and subjects: acoustics, magnetism, heat and cold, and many more. And how about experiencing a lab or an auditorium directly at the university? Or even doing experiments on your own?
