The Institute for Diaconal Studies
The Institute for Diaconal Studies at Heidelberg University attends to the basic questions and the practice of diaconia respectively the social responsibility of the church.

In 1954 many Protestant regional churches and nearly all of their respective social service agencies, together with the Evangelical Church in Germany and Heidelberg University were involved in the Institute's foundation. Since then the DWI exists in constant cooperation with other academic disciplines and research centers.
The DWI sees itself as an institution for interdisciplinary studies which offers its students also a framework of social life consisting out of evening events, excursions and a regulars' table.
