M.A. Conference Interpretation Japanese - German - English

The interpreting courses in Heidelberg are closely geared to the requirements made by the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). Graduates are qualified to work as interpreters in two foreign languages and their mother tongue. The new offering results from the extension of an existing MA course to include Japanese. Initial funding for this purpose will be provided by the Japan Foundation.

For over 60 years Heidelberg University’s School of Translation and Interpreting has been recognised as one of the world’s leading institutions for the training of conference interpreters. A study by the interpreting service of the European Union indicates that a large number of the interpreters working in Europe obtained their degrees in Heidelberg. The School has three ultramodern conference halls at its disposal equipped with state-of-the-art digital technology for teaching purposes. Students wanting to become conference interpreters have to go through an exacting selection process for admission to the two-year MA course. Alongside German they can choose English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish (and now Japanese) either as their native language or as active or passive foreign languages.
