Information and Counselling
Students on the BA course at the School of Translation and Interpreting are required to do a six-week internship abroad. The new Praktika-Center (Internship Clearing House) assists them in finding suitable vacancies. It proposes internships for students from all departments and ensures that these temporary positions are of a kind that will enhance both general and foreign-language skills. The Clearing House also welcomes information from students who have already worked abroad. Here they can share their impressions and pass on their internships to other students. Teaching staff with contacts abroad are also invited to get in touch with the Clearing House. This will ensure that valuable internships are not lost sight of and that the School and its students will gradually gain a foothold in the working world.
The main job of the Praktika-Center is to help students find an internship. It collects and proposes vacancies and communicates with potential employers. It also looks after ongoing projects like Hospitation and Programa Enlace and paves the way for long-term cooperation with reputable firms and institutions.
The Praktika-Center has representatives from all departments of the School. There are also two central coordinators for data administration and active contact with companies. The department representatives can advise students individually on openings available in the country of their choice. Two members of the Fachschaft (student representatives) are also associated with the Clearing House in an ancillary, cross-departmental capacity.
Internship offerings will be published regularly on this site. Students looking for internships can seek individual counselling from department representatives in their office hours. For details on these office hours, click the corresponding link in the right-hand column.
