Function and electronic properties of a material or a complex device depend directly on local molecular order, and often also on morphology, i.e. their structure on a larger length scale. These length scales can be studied in 3D by electron microscopy or tomography. Spatially resolved electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) can additionally generate information on local and global electronic states. Particularly interesting are correlations between electronic states and structure, molecular order and morphology.
