Bereichsbild 200x88

Major Systems biology

High-Throughput and -Omics

The course will consist of three parts: mass spectrometric proteomics, metabolomics and microscopy-based assays.

Mass Spectrometric Proteomics
Prof. Dr. Wolf Dieter Lehmann, Mass Spectrometry Group, DKFZ.
The course will take place at BioQuant, Teaching Lab, May 17-22

In this part  the following issues will be addressed: Interpretation of MS/MS Spectra of Peptides, de novo Sequencing of Peptides by MS/MS, Protein in-gel digestion, LC-MS/MS, Basics of LC-MS/MS data interpretation by Search Tools, Isotope Dilution, Quantitative Proteomic Measurements.

Metabolomics
Prof. Dr. Stefan Wölfl, Institut für Pharmazie und Molekulare Biotechnologie, Abteilung Biologie Bioanalytik und Molekularbiologie. The course will take place at Institut für Pharmazie und Molekulare Biotechnologie, April 26-30.

Systematics and comprehensive assessment of the influence of extracellular parameters, such as culture conditions, on cellular sensitivity to DNA damage for several different strains will be investigated with a computer-controlled robot-system. The system conbines automated variation of multiple culture/medium parameters with the seamless integration of mathematical tools for experimental planning and data processing. With this set up we will automatically explore interesting regions of the parameter-space using larger numbers of data points chosen based on space-filling experimental designs. Dependence of cellular sensitivity to DNA damage and apoptosis induction on metabolic parameters will be compared between strains and culturing conditions.

Microscopy-based assays
Dr. Vytaute Starkuviene, Screening of Cellular Networks, BioQuant.
The course will take place at BioQuant, Teaching Lab, May 3-7.

Generation of quantitative RNAi data to analyze secretory membrane trafficking events. That will include planning and performing of cell based assays, fabrication of large-scale substrates, automated fluorescence microscopy and automated image analysis, statistical data analysis.
