Thesis Submission
At the end of your PhD period and after completing your thesis you have to apply for the thesis defense, the final examination. The thesis can be written either in German or English (§7 (3)).
1) After having finished your work, you'll have to find 4 examiners first (Erstgutachter, Zweitgutachter, 3rd and 4th Examiner). See the lists below for available persons and remember to cover at least 3 different specialty areas. Please note as well that only examiners mentioned on the left-hand side of the list can be Chairperson of your committee. Arrange a date for the thesis defense in accordance with the Faculty's regulations.
2) Together with 4 printed issues of your thesis, you'll have to submit a signed CV, your diploma/master certificates and proof of attendance of the PhD program ("Blue Sheet), as well as a separate Eidesstattliche Versicherung. Please download the How to Information Defense 2013 English for all pertinent information below.
3) After your successful thesis defense you have to publish your thesis (§13) either in printed form (book or microfilm, 20 copies) or online through the university's library document service HeiDok (PDF-file). The latter is the most frequently used choice. In this case, please remember to submit the original(!) copy of your PhD thesis (certified by the Dekanat) from the Dekanat to the library to ensure that the online publishing can proceed.
See information about online publishing provided by HeiDok or as pdf (German only).
Please read carefully through the following forms and documents before addressing the PhD office with further questions.
