Mobility Programme

Gawi2 2012 250x125Heidelberg University has a tradition of maintaining strong ties to scientific institutions all over the world. Funding from the Excellence Initiative is used to support measures that advance internationalisation to an even greater degree. The aim is to promote exchange and cooperation with top research institutes abroad as well as recruit top-notch researchers for Heidelberg University.

During the first funding phase of the Excellence Initiative, Heidelberg University’s “Mobility in International Research Collaborations” programme supported 47 research collaborations in 20 fields with 104 different partner institutions in 34 countries.

The second funding phase will support (A) international exchange in research collaborations and (B) international networking of junior researchers.  Heidelberg University will provide funding for

  • travel and accommodations costs for mobility measures by researchers of Heidelberg University and international partner institutions.
  • short-term scholarships for doctoral students and postdocs of Heidelberg University and international partner institutions
  • tangible means (e.g. for holding workshops and conferences with the project partners).

Special consideration will be given to multilateral collaborations with renowned international partner institutions and the establishment of specialised/thematic networks and collaborations that do not fit into the traditional funding programmes of the DAAD, DFG , etc. (Note: individual doctoral projects not integrated into a larger cooperation and travel to conferences are not eligible for funding.)

There is a separate funding line to support collaborations under the auspices of HeKKSaGOn, the German-Japanese university consortium founded in 2010.
