Guidelines for the Calculation of Costs

Travel and accommodation costs for short-term stays (1-31 days) should take account of the different costs in the respective host countries. Calculation of travel expenses shall be based on second class or economy class fares. For the calculation of costs you may use the rates of the DFG programme “Initiation of International Cooperation”. The country-specific lump sums for the trip of researchers to and from Germany and the daily rates for German researchers’ stays abroad are listed in this DFG table.

For guest visits of international researchers to Germany the DFG programme has the following daily/ monthly rates

 monthly rate

daily rate

Category 1: Researchers with a doctoral degree

€ 2.350

€ 105

Category 2: Associate professors
(W2 or equivalent positions)

€ 2.650

€ 115

Category 3: Full professors
(W3 or equivalent positions)

€ 3.150

€ 160

These are maximum rates; lower rates are possible.

Doctoral students and postdocs of Heidelberg University and from partner institutions are eligible for mobility scholarships of 1 to 6 months. The amount of the scholarship should cover the costs of a research stay at a partner university and take account of the living expenses in the respective country. Please note that the maximum scholarship rates of the DFG must not be exceeded.
It is also possible to award partial mobility scholarships to cover the extra expenses incurred by the stay abroad.

In addition to the mobility scholarship, a travel grant can be awarded. You may use the DFG list mentioned above or the respective list of the DAAD (with lower rates)
