Notion of ‘Wunschkinder’ expressed in Prenatal Diagnosis and Selective Abortions in Germany and India

Rapidly advancing reproductive technologies are offering options such as prenatal and pre-implantation diagnosis for identifying genetic attributes of the child(ren) before birth. These technologies, meant for therapeutic purposes are also being used for selective abortions. This DFG funded research examines the notion of ‘Wunschkinder’ in this context in Germany and India. This workshop aims at disseminating results of the study to initiate a discourse on its gender-disability context among experts working on similar issues from Germany and India.
