Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows”
The Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" at Heidelberg University is part of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments in cooperation with the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat). The objective of the Cluster is to examine processes of cultural exchange with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research.

Transcultural Studies
The subject of Transcultural Studies is one of the scientific pillars of Heidelberg University. To further develop the potentials of the comprehensive university in accordance with its institutional strategy, Transcultural Studies are supported with funds of the Excellence Initiative. (...) The emphasis is placed on testing a theoretical approach that does not concentrate on historical periods or continents, but aims to overcome the existing geographic focus of area studies.
