Warning: Security Issues Related to the UniNow App
We would like to call your attention to the security issues arising from the use of the app, “UniNow – die App fürs Studium”, released by UniNow GmbH.
In order to use the functionalities this mobile application offers, you have to enter the login details for your university account. By doing so, you grant the releasing company, and other service providers cooperating with them, access to all of your personal data, such as your examination results, your library account, and even your emails.
Moreover, the disclosure of your login details (Uni-ID and password) to third parties violates §10 paragraph 2 list point 9 of the administrative regulations governing the use of the services provided by the university’s IT centre (Verwaltungs- und Benutzungsordnung des Universitätsrechenzentrums).
If you are currently using this app or have used it in the past, we urge you to change the password related to your Uni-ID right away and to refrain from using the app in future.
We would like to remind you that the same issue also applies to other applications such as Gmail and other email service providers where you are asked to submit your university account details, which may then be stored on external servers.
