Application Procedure and Forms
International studient applicants without citizenship of an EU/EEA member state and with a foreign country (e. g. High School Diploma, Attestat, Maturità, etc.) must apply online for an opening in the first subject-related semester of an undergraduate study programme at Heidelberg University. In case of IT problems, the form Application for Admission may be used.
Please note that special regulations are in place for the degree programmes Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacology.
The PDF file generated at the end of the online application must be printed out, signed and sent to the International Relations Office with all necessary documents. Please remember to hand in certified copies of your application documents.

Application deadlines:
- 15 July for the following winter semester (preclusive time limit: date of receipt)
- 15 January for the following summer semester (preclusive time limit: date of receipt)
The application periods are strictly adhered to. Application dossiers reaching Heidelberg University after the application deadline will not be included in the selection procedure.
If documents are missing, incomplete, or not certified, the University is not obliged to establish the facts of the case officially. This also applies if documents submitted in the course of a previous application are still with the University. The International Students Office will not notify international applicants if documents required for the application procedure are missing or have not been submitted in due form.
Other Application Procedures
Application Forms
In addition to the application form, the following documents must be included in your application dossier:
- An officially certified photocopy or replication of the certificate or diploma entitling the student to embark on a university course in his/her home country (e.g. Abitur, Baccalaureate, GCE - A & O Level, school-leaving certificate, university admission exam, etc.) including a list of grades. Except in the case of certificates in French or English, an officially certified German translation of the certificate or diploma is also required.
- Officially certified photocopies or replications of all university certificates (from colleges, academies, etc.) that the student has already obtained, plus lists of grades per semester or year of study. Except for documents in English or French, a certified translation into German is also required. Proof must also be submitted, in the form of enrolment certificates (originals or certified copies), of any semesters of study at German universities (already completed or still under way).
- An officially certified photocopy or replication of the successfully completed assessment test (“Feststellungsprüfung”) if such an exam has already been taken at a “Studienkolleg” in Germany. This must be accompanied by a record of the individual grades.
- Officially certified photocopies of successfully completed university admissions exams taken abroad, plus grades and, where applicable, proof of enrolment. An official translation into German is also required unless the originals are in English or French.
- Proof of German language proficiency. One requirement for taking the German language examination “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH)” at Heidelberg University is written proof of at least 1,000-1,200 hours of prior German language instruction at a recognised institution.
- 1 passport photograph (no larger than 4 x 5 cm)
- 3 international reply coupons (Coupon-Réponse International)
- Proof of the student’s ability to finance his/her studies (only applicable to applicants without citizenship of an EU/EEA member state)
- Copy of passport (page with photo and personal information)
- Copy of TestAS certificate, if applicable
- Certificate of completed online test “Online-Selbsttest zur Studienorientierung für die Aufnahme eines grundständigen Studiums an einer Hochschule in Baden Württemberg” (http://www.was-studiere-ich.de)
Student applicants from the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia and Vietnam must include in their application dossier the original of their APS certificate (“Akademische Prüfstelle”), in addition to the documents listed above.
