Application Documents for Applicants From Non-EU and Non-EEA Countries

Different documents must be provided as part of your application, depending on the application process and the subject-related semester applied for.

Documents for Application to the First Subject-related Semester

Please submit a complete, dated and signed print-out of the application form (pdf print-out of the online application).

The following documents should be submitted along with the application form :

  • Officially certified photocopy or duplicate of the university entrance qualification which is needed for admission to a university in the relevant country of origin (e.g. Abitur, Baccalauréat, GCE - A&O-Levels, School Leaving Certificate etc.). This should include a list of the individual grades achieved.  In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German must be provided.
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopy or duplicate of the certificate proving successful completion of the Feststellungsprüfung, including the list of individual grades achieved, provided that this examination has already been sat in Germany.   
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopies or duplicates of certificates for any university admission examinations passed abroad, including the list of individual grades achieved and, where available, the letter of admission from the foreign university. In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German must be provided.
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopies or duplicates of any certificates attained at an institution of higher education or a university (colleges, academies etc.), as well as a list of the individual grades achieved each semester or year of study. In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German must be provided. Any semester taken at an institution of higher education in Germany must be documented by enrolment certificates (original or officially certified copy).
  • Proof of German language proficiency (uncertified copy); a prerequisite for sitting the German language test for university admission (Test DSH) at Heidelberg University is written proof of completion  of at least 1,000 – 1,200 hours of German lessons at a recognised institution.
  • Proof of how the applicant’s studies will be financed (http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/md/studium/download/finanzierung_bescheinigung.pdf)
  • 3 international reply coupons (Coupon-Réponse International – not necessary if mailing address is in Germany)
  • Uncertified copy of the applicant’s passport (page featuring the passport holder’s name in Latin script).
  • Uncertified photocopy of results from TestAS, if this exmination has been sat.
  • Applicants for Medicine / Pharmacy / Dentistry: original certificate of Preliminary Review Documentation (Vorprüfungsdokumentation - VPD) from uni-assist e.V.
  • Prospecitve students applying for a subject with admission restriction (Numerus Clausus / NC) must submit a letter of motivation (max. two A4 pages), outlining their interest in the subject as well as the reasons why they would like to be admitted to the programme. The letter must be written and signed by the applicant personally.
  • Applicants with certificates attained at a high school / an institution of higher education / a university in Mongolia, Vietnam and the People’s Republic of China: original certificate obtained from the respective Academic Evaluation Centre (Akademische Prüfstelle - APS)at a German Embassy.
  • Applicants who have already begun a degree programme in Germany or abroad and who wish to change subject: written explanation for the change of subject.
  • Applicants who have already completed a degree programme, either in Germany or abroad, which qualifies graduates to enter a profession, and who are now applying for a second  programme of study in another subject: written explanation for the new university application.

 

Documents for Application to a Higher Subject-related Semester (University Transfer / Hochschulstart or Quereinstieg)

Applicants who are applying in the scope of a Hochschulortswechsel or Quereinstieg for admission to a subject with a restriction on admission in the higher semester, must apply using the respective online application form.  Please submit a complete, dated and signed print-out of the application form (pdf print-out of the online application).

Applicants who are applying in the scope of a Hochschulortswechsel or Quereinstieg for admission to a subject with no restriction on admission in the higher semester, do not apply online. These applicants must apply using the written application form.

  • Uncertified copy of the applicant’s passport (page featuring the passport holder’s name in Latin script).
  • Proof (pdf print-out) of the obligatory online self assessment for student orientation for admission to an undergraduate degree programme at a university in Baden-Württemberg  (www.was-studiere-ich.de)
  • Applicants for Medicine / Pharmacy / Dentistry: original certificate of Preliminary Review Documentation (Vorprüfungsdokumentation - VPD) from uni-assist e.V.
  • Applicants from Mongolia, Vietnam and the People’s Republic of China: original certificate obtained from the respective Academic Evaluation Centre (Akademische Prüfstelle - APS) at a German Embassy.
  • Current certificate of enrolment, which must name the subject area as well as the qualification aimed for and the number of academic semesters completed to date.  In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German must be provided. Original copies of certificates issued by German institutions of higher education are to be submitted.
  • Certificate issued by the relevant examination office at the home university stating that the applicant is still eligible to participate in modular assessments and examinations before, during, and at the end of the degree programme in the desired subject or another closely related subject. In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German must be provided.
  • If transferring from a university abroad to Heidelberg University or in the scope of a Quereinstieg (even within Germany): a certificate of transferable credits issued by the relevant departmental examination office at Heidelberg University must be submitted. If applicants are applying for a programme in Medicine, Pharmacy, or Dentistry, this certificate should be issued by the relevant State Examination Office for Health Care Professions.  Certificates of transferable credits can be submitted up to four weeks after the application deadline has passed.

Please note:

In the case that an applicant is making two simultaneous applications; one for the first semester and one for an advanced semester in the same programme of study, two copies of all documents must be submitted to the university by the deadline. Two complete sets of the application documents must therefore be submitted.

 

Documents submitted to Heidelberg University will become property of the University and will not be returned to the applicant. Should applications be successful, original copies of documents must be provided at enrolment.
